Supporting the Bombeiros

I’m a great believer in contributing as much as possible to the community in which you live in whatever way you can. Whenever possible we support local shops and markets rather than the large supermarkets and buy Portuguese made products if available.fire

One of the most important ways we can contribute is by supporting our local Bombeiros. It’s incredible to believe that only 10% of the fire fighting staff are salaried meaning 90% are volunteers. They rely very heavily on monetary support from the public for new equipment and fire fighting clothing and during the summer with the high risk of forest fires they really appreciate donations of:

  • BOTTLES OF WATER (no larger than 500 ml bottles)
  • ENERGY BARS
  • ENERGY DRINKS
  • SNACKS
  • FRUIT
  • SOCKS
  • TOWELS

These can be delivered to your local Fire Station. There is also an excellent Facebook group that report on the current fires and co-ordinate the collection and distribution of the resources.

When we lived in Malaysia we supported a local Children’s Home that didn’t receive any Government support. We organised a Charity Ball with dinner, a live band and a charity auction. Incredibly we raised a profit of circa €35,000 which we donated to the Children’s Home! It was very hard work to organise but well worth the effort and great fun….

It’s our intention to organise a Charity Ball for the Bombeiros in Tavira hopefully in September 2017. Please message me if you would like to help raise sponsership etc.

My name is Denise. Having spent over 30 years in an international career in Organisational & People Development I am now putting down roots in Tavira in the East Algarve, Portugal. I'm a female Brit, married to a Norwegian, and I find it hard to believe I'm in my early 60's when I don't feel it and have so many more things to do and achieve. I became an expat when I left the UK in 2001. Since then I've lived in Norway, Singapore, Malaysia and now Portugal. I love to travel, enjoy the company of good friends and cooking. But my life time passion is property. As the daughter of a builder I love imagining what any old or dated property can become and managing the transformation process. I'm lucky to have had the opportunity to do this many times and am excited to be doing it again in Tavira as well as helping others realise their own dreams.
